Substitute Teacher Information

In order to be considered for employment as a substitute teacher and placement on Onslow County Schools substitute teacher roster for the 2015-2016 school year, the following requirements must be met.

*Note that interviews are conducted and new substitute teachers are hired when there are vacancies on the Onslow County Schools substitute teacher roster. Only the best qualified applicants are selected.  

 

LICENSED PERSONNEL (Persons who have held a teaching license.)                               

1.   Complete the 24-hour Effective Teacher Training Program (ETTP). This course is offered throughout the year. To register, call 455-2211, extension 20412.

2.   Submit a completed application online along with a copy of your teaching license, Effective Teacher Training certificate, and any other necessary documents (i.e. transcripts). These documents may be uploaded directly to your online application. Please note that only completed application packets will be considered.

3.   After you have submitted a completed application, you may be called to schedule an appointment for a required panel interview if selected. Please be sure to attend your scheduled interview. If you fail to attend your interview, we will not be able to accommodate you to reschedule until the 2016-2017 school year.

4.   The names of only those applicants selected by the interview panel will be submitted for Board of Education approval. If Board approved, you will be notified via mail of your employment processing date and time. You must be processed before you can begin substitute teaching.

 

NONLICENSED PERSONNEL (Persons who do not have a teaching license must possess a high school diploma or GED.)                                                                             

1.   Complete the 24-hour Effective Teacher Training Program (ETTP). This course is offered throughout the year.  To register, call 455-2211, extension 20412.

2.   Submit a completed online application along with a copy of your Effective Teacher Training certificate and any other necessary documents (copy of high school diploma or GED, college transcripts, or college degree). These documents may be uploaded directly to your online application. Please note that only completed application packets will be considered.

3.   After you have submitted a completed application, you may be called to schedule an appointment for a required panel interview if selected. Please be sure to attend your scheduled interview. PAY INFORMATION

Substitute teachers receive salary checks on teachers’ paydays for services performed. The pay rate for licensed substitutes is $103.00 per day. The pay rate for nonlicensed substitutes is $80.00 per day.
