Not to be intimidated by a bunch of numbers, 14 third graders went head-to-head, putting their math prowess on the line, during the OCS Fourth Annual Third Grade Multiplication Bee March 27, 2017.  Blue Creek Elementary’s Multi-Purpose Room was standing room only with supportive parents and family members rooting them on.

It was a nail biter, but Anthony Davis, Jr., from Richlands Elementary School, edged out Tyler Schultz, from Morton Elementary, in the Kahoot tiebreaker round to bring home the first-place title.

Keyla Castaneda, from Carolina Forest, Ty Moore, from Southwest, and Isaiah Abenti, from Summersill, finished tied for third place.

The 14 students vying for the district title qualified to compete by winning their respective school’s multiplication tournaments.  All students received a medal and certificate for their accomplishment.

Additional participants included Ladayia Thomas-Runge (Bell Fork), Stormi Archer (Blue Creek), Korie Reese (Clyde Erwin), Logan Coughlin (Dixon), Savannah Bryan (Hunters Creek), Frederick Montgomery (Jacksonville Commons), Dorian Farmer (Northwoods), Ayden Benson (Parkwood), Daylon Cobbs (Queens Creek), Martin Fellerer (Sand Ridge), Andrew Lopez (Stateside), and Cayne Ballas (Silverdale).
