Clyde Erwin Elementary first graders were treated to a special assembly following the completion of their lessons on community helpers.

To celebrate what they learned, members of law enforcement, medical professionals and other professionals in the community visited the students August 18, and talked about their jobs and ways they help others.

Principal Tara Patterson said she hoped the discussion would help put a face on some of the content they covered, inspire them to want to give back to their community, and open their eyes to career options.

Patterson said it the first of many lessons educating students to give them a better understanding of the many roles and contributions made by people within their own community.
