The Division of Student Services of Onslow County Schools announces the availability of magnet school applications for the 2018-2019 school year. Onslow County currently offers three magnet school opportunities: Clyde Erwin Elementary Magnet School, Northwoods Elementary Magnet School, and New Bridge Middle Magnet School.

Two magnet school options exist at the elementary level. Both elementary magnet schools follow the year-round calendar. Each school has a unique focus which helps guide instruction.

Clyde Erwin Elementary Magnet School of International Studies and Cultural Arts delivers the North Carolina Standard Course of Study in a way that helps students see how what they are learning connects with the world. Teachers and students alike explore the variety of cultures in our society and around the world. The interactions and interdependence of people and where they live sets the foundation for learning experiences. Clyde Erwin Elementary Magnet School is a recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) World school.

Northwoods Elementary Year-Round Magnet School of Technology and Innovation focuses its instruction on technology and innovation incorporating project-based learning strategies. Northwoods Elementary Year-Round Magnet School of Technology and Innovation is Onslow County Schools’ only year-round school. Students are involved in collaborative learning activities that require critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

At the middle school level, New Bridge Middle Magnet School utilizes science and technology to focus instruction. The North Carolina Standard Course of Study remains the guide for teachers, but in planning and carrying out lessons, students are asked to think like a scientist and use technology tools to make discoveries.

Each school is a public school that is a part of the Onslow County School System and there is no additional cost to attend. However, prospective students must apply for admission to a magnet school.
