Mr. Harris' Biography
Welcome to Fourth Grade!
I hope everyone enjoyed their summer. My name is David Harris. I will be teaching fourth grade Social Studies and Language Arts this year and teaming with Ms. Moore who will be teaching Math and Science. This will be my eleventh year at Dixon Elementary.
I moved to North Carolina in 07 and have from New York where I received my BS Degree in Elementary Education from the State University College of Oneonta. I was born and raised in New York but have come to love North Carolina. Working with the staff, faculty and parents here at Dixon has been wonderful. I enjoy surfing, reading and spending quality time with my kids. I am married, have a ten-year-old daughter and six-year-old son.
Teaching and gearing students to be leaders in this global economy is what I strive for. One of my roles at the school is the lead of the “Leader in Me Lighthouse Team”. The “Leader in Me” is uniform throughout our school and you will see the seven habits posted in every room. We encourage our students to take leadership of their learning and academics which may develop the whole child and create great habits along the way.
I look forward to a great year with all who are involved with your child's success!
Some parent tips to ensure we have a great year;
Create an account for parent portal. This is an online program where you can see your child's progress such as missing assignments and late work as well as grades on each assignment. You can do this by visiting the main office and filling out some paper work or printing the form on the school website and returning it to the office. They will ask to see ID.
Make sure I have your e-mail address as I will send out weekly and monthly news for important updates, events, classroom assignments and conference sign-ups.
Check student Leadership folders and agenda's routinely for updates, calendars, newsletters and graded assignments.
Sign up for my Remind account for frequent updates on your phone.
Feel free to e-mail me with questions and to reply for conferences. This is my best means of communication.
I look forward to teaching your child and working with you to guide your child through the year.
