  • Principal's Message May 20-24, 2019

Good Afternoon Parents, students, and staff,
This is Joycelyn Cassidy with our Colt Call for the week of May 20 to May 24.  Any information shared in this message will also be posted on the school website.

EOG testing begins soon.  May 28 will be the Math 2 NCFE; May 29 will be Math I EOC; June 4 will be the Reading EOG; June 5th will be Math EOG; June 6th will be 8th Grade Science EOG and 6th & 7th Grade Science NCFF; June 7th will be NCFE SS and WH.  Makeups will begin June 10 to June 14th.  Please make sure students have their chargers for their 1:1 device during testing days.    Unless students are participating in makeups, 1:1 devices and chargers will be collected after regular testing is complete.  Students that do not have a charger will be assessed a fee.

Parents, we need your assistance with another issue during testing.  A letter was sent home last week in reference to NC State Board policy on testing procedures.  It is important to remember that during testing cell phones, smartwatches and any other electronic device of that type are prohibited during testing sessions.  Any student that has a device on them during a testing session could cause a testing misadministration.  A test misadministration can result in a student, entire class and or school to take the test again.  Devices should be secured in student lockers.  It is preferred that students leave their devices at home on testing days or be prepared to give the device to the test administrator on the morning of testing.  Any student that violates this policy shall receive an administrative consequence and/or be removed from testing to re-test during makeups.

We have a STEM showcase scheduled for May 21 at 10:00 AM in the gym.  Please come out to see what our 6th and 7th grade science classes have been creating.

Tickets for the 8th grade dance are available for pre-sale for $5 until 8:10 AM with Ms. Evans.  Please do not wait until the last minute to purchase or sign for your ticket.  The last day to purchase your ticket is June 3rd.  Students will not be allowed into the dance without a ticket.

Athletes and parents, if you did not get to return your invitation and money for the athletic banquet, you can still turn it in on Monday.  That will be the final day.  We must determine a final count to ensure enough food for participants and families.  If we do not receive your RSVP by Monday, you may still attend the banquet, but food will be limited to those that responded and were provided meal tickets.

And for the sports season for 2019-2020, we will have an athletic parent and concussion meeting at 5:30 in the café on Thursday, May 23.  This meeting is mandatory for any student planning on trying out for cheerleading next beginning May 28th.

Yearbooks are still available to order for $30.00 online at Balfour.com.  If you have questions, please contact Ms. Hewitt.
