• Principal's Message November 12-16, 2018

Good Afternoon Parents, students, and staff,

This is Joycelyn Cassidy, Principal of SWMS, and I am bringing you our weekly Colt call for the week of 11/12 to 11/16.  Any information shared in this message will also be posted on the school website.

Monday, Nov 12, is Veteran’s Day.  There is no school for students and staff.  The SWMS community would like to express our appreciation to all the veterans who have committed their selves to our country.

It is IMPACT AID Card time.  Impact Aid cards will be distributed to students on Tuesday, Nov 13.  This card is an extremely important documentation for the Onslow County School system.  Parents please ask your child for their card, complete and return it to school as soon as possible.  The students from the homeroom from each grade level will receive a coupon that will allow them free entry to an athletic event or dance.

This is just a reminder that calendar revisions for the school system are posted on the OCS website.  In addition, the testing calendar for benchmark assessments and EOY assessments is posted on the SWMS website.  Parents, please take a moment to review the change in dates.

There is an informational meeting for 8th grade students interested in applying for the OCECHS for the 2019-20 school year.  The meeting is scheduled for 11/15 at 5:30 in the media center.  Representatives from OCECHS and the Principal of the Early College will be present to answer questions on the application process.  Postcards were given to 8th grade students last week.

School pictures will be taken on Thursday, November 15.  Picture packets are Pre-order only.  Order forms will be distributed next week.  These are the pictures that will also be used for the yearbook.   And speaking of the yearbook, place your order now, on line, for the low cost of $28.00. Prices will rise toward the end of the year.  More information on how to order will be provided later.  Please contact Ms. Hewitt if you have questions.

PBIS is sponsoring the next school dance, November 16; 3:30 to 5:30.  To assist, they are asking for donations of can sodas, candy and chips.  If you are willing to donate, please send your items to the front office or contact Ms. Hardy.  Cost for the dance is $4.00.  Permission slips will be sent home next week.  Any student that has received ISS, OSS since Sept 7 is not eligible to attend.

Parents, if you have not already, please reach out to the school to let us know if there are changes in contact information or residency.  We would also like to know if there are any resources that you will need to help support the family.

    Mark Your Calendar:

    • We have one more home game next week. On Tuesday Nov 13 we compete against NBMS.  The game will be played at SWH at 6:00 PM.  Admission is $4.00.   Our final game is away on Nov 19 against DMS.  The game will be played at DHS, start time 6:00
    • Our next softball game is scheduled for Tuesday Nov 13 against NBM followed by an away game on 11/15 against DMS. The postponed game from 11/08 will be played on 11/19 at home.  Start time for softball games is 3:30.
    • The next set of interim reports will be distributed on 11/29 and the end of the first grading period is scheduled for 12/18.

Remember, parents, SWMS will be conducting periodic fire and safety drills.  Please review the procedures as outlined in the student handbook and encourage your child to listen carefully to all directions during these times.  Clear expectations are the best way to ensure everyone’s safety.

And finally, for all OCS students, breakfast and lunch are free until Nov 30.  If you would like to apply for Free or Reduced lunch applications can be found on the OCS website, or you can request one through the office.

Thank you and enjoy your Veteran’s Day Holiday and the rest of your weekend, good-bye.
