Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Joey Scott

Hello Eagles!

My name is Mr. Scott, and I will be your Art teacher here at Clyde Erwin. I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina and I graduated from Appalachian State University. While I was there, I earned my degree in Studio Art and my teaching license in Arts Education. I lived in the mountains until I moved across the state so that I could be a Clyde Erwin Eagle. This will be my second year at Clyde Erwin, and I am looking forward to seeing everyone again and meeting our Kindergarteners and new students.

I used to spend my time hiking in the mountains around Asheville and Boone, but now I like to walk along the beach. I enjoy creating art at home and my biggest passion is sculpting and throwing clay. I have a huge passion for art and I want to share that with my students. This year I will be working with your classroom teachers and making some art lessons based around what you guys will be learning in class. I will also be focusing on the process that we go through to create our works of art instead of an end goal. I believe that understanding the techniques of art is the best thing that we can take out of the classroom.

In the classroom I am trying to create an environment where my students feel like they can accomplish anything. To do that I need to reinforce the idea that we are all here to learn and just do our best. I do expect students to be respectful of others and themselves. We are all working at different skill levels, and I would like for my students to encourage each other. I also teach respect for our materials in the classroom.

I use Class Dojo to award points like my student’s core classroom teachers. I look for the ones who go out of their way to help others, follow directions without being told and bring a positive attitude into the classroom. I will also be sure to contact parents or guardians should I have any need to.

Please feel free to contact me with any comments or concerns at any time. I am looking forward to our year together.
