Chinese Guest Teachers
The Onslow County School System is pleased that our district continues to participate in the Confucius Classroom program – a distinctive educational opportunity for our students.
Our Chinese Guest Teachers for the 2019-2020 school year:
Carolina Forest International Elementary
Huntes Creek Elementary
Meng, Panpan at Dixon Middle
LIN Yanling at White Oak High
Our district is part of a network of 38 Confucius Classroom schools in North Carolina coordinated by Go Global NC, formerly known as The Center for International Understanding (CIU), an affiliate of the University of North Carolina system. College Board brings skilled and well prepared Chinese teachers to North Carolina to teach Mandarin Chinese and help our children better understand China, our state’s 3rdlargest trading partner. Currently, the Onslow County School System hosts the largest contingency of Chinese Guest Teachers in the east.
Increasing Chinese language instruction in North Carolina is an objective for both the UNC system and N.C. Department of Public Instruction as part of their efforts to graduate students who are prepared to work in the global economy.
In all, more than 8,000 North Carolina K-12 students have studied Chinese through CIU’s Confucius Classrooms. These experiences include the study of Chinese culture, history and language and coordination of school-to-school partnerships that allow our students to learn with, not just about, other regions of the world.
We gain extraordinary benefits for our children who will now be able to see first-hand – in their own classroom – the value of understanding the language and culture of a country of strategic importance to North Carolina.
We hope that you will take time to meet our Chinese Guest Teachers and learn about the Confucius Classroom program.
