Explanation of Tools
-
This tool can be used in several ways to support instruction. As an introduction, the tool can be used to demonstrate the types of analogies and provide students with examples of analogies as the teacher provides direct instruction in the form of a mini lesson/think aloud. As students begin working with analogies, the teacher can fill in both pair one and pair two and have the students identify the relationship used. Teachers can also fill in one pair and the first element of the second pair and have the students identify the relationship and complete the analogy for pair two. As students become more proficient, they should be provided opportunities to identify relationships and create their own analogies as they are exposed to new content.
