Explanation of Tool

    • Through physical movement students create mental images to represent new learning. 
    • Thought kinesthetic movement students generate neural networks that store learning. 
    • Engagement might include:
      • Arranging cards to sequence a concept.
      • Creating body movements to represent key/new vocabulary terms.
      • Tap out the pattern detected in a poem.
      • Create gestures to recall comprehension strategies.  
    • Do, Look, Learn. Tools for Classroom Instruction that Works,p. 127-129.
      • Acting Out/Physically Representing Vocabulary Terms.
        • Select learning objectives to adress through "Do, Look. Learn". 
        • Introduce what students will DO: act out/physically represent key vocabulary terms.
        • Students LOOK back on what they did.
        • Students explain new LEARNing. 
      • Role-playing. 
        • Select learning objectives to deepen understanding of key elements through "Do, Look, Learn". 
        • Introduce what students will DO: demonstrate learning through role-playing.
        • Teacher pauses during mini-lesson and students demonstrate learning through role-playing. 
        • Students LOOK back on what they did.
        • Students explain new LEARNing that resulted.
