Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Susana Martinez
My name is Susana Martinez. I am the 4th and 5th grade DLI teacher. I am from Caracas, Venezuela and got my Bachelor's Degree in Education from the Catholic University in Caracas in 2003. This will be my 20th year teaching, but the 7th in the U.S. In previous years, I taught in preschool, kindergarten, 2nd and 3rd grade and now I am currently teaching 4th and 5th grade, which I have been enjoying a lot, as I hope my students are too. This will be a wonderful year full of learning, sharing, surprises and laughter. I am looking forward to sharing with you all about my country, my language and culture as well as to learning together about other cultures, to keep growing as citizens of the world.
I lived in Venezuela all my life until 2014. That was the year that I took the challenge of trying a new path in my career, to teach in the U.S. sponsored by an international cultural exchange program, becoming a DLI teacher for 2nd grade, which I taught for 5 years. Now the U.S. has become my home for the past 9 years, letting me be a better professional.
I have a wonderful husband retired from the Air Force and two beautiful dogs: a female Beagle named Zumba and a male Rottweiler named Macho. As I don't have kids of my own, these are my little babies that I take care of and spoil every day. When I am not teaching I like to spend time with my husband, walk my dogs and travel to find new places or visit my family who are far away. I love to dance and I attend Zumba classes at the gym. I love nature and going to the beach. I am from the Caribbean!
Some of my favorite things are: Coffee, peanut M&M’s, soccer World Cup, Diet Pepsi, dark chocolate, popcorn, trail mix, cheese dip, Chick-Fil-A, sushi, and Mike's Farm.
Favorite color: purple.
School supplies: Mr. Sketch Scented markers, Spanish books, white erasers and sharpeners with containers.
