Explanation of Tools

  • A tool that teaches students how to make connections between previous learning and new learning, through inquiry. The process involves examining a set of statements, making predictions about the validity of those statements, investigating them and then drawing a conclusion.

Step 1. Determine your purpose, ensuring that the activity will align with your learning target.

Step 2. Design 5-7 statements. Ensure that some of the statements are false, but reasonable.

Step 3. Provide students with resources to support collaborate learning or to independently investigate each statement.

Step 4. Students reflect on new learning and revisit each statement to determine if they agree or disagree.

Step 5. Students provide evidence to justify their conclusions.

Step 6. Students discuss whole class or in teams adjusts they made or did not make and why.
