Making the Jump from 3rd to 4th Grade
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As we embark on a new academic year, we wanted to take a moment to address an important aspect of your child's education: the transition from 3rd grade to 4th grade. In 4th grade, we strive to create a more challenging and enriching learning environment for our students. This transition marks a significant step in their educational journey, where they will build upon their previous knowledge and develop new skills.
When children enter into 4th grade, the level of work and expectation becomes much more challenging than what they experienced in previous grades. Students will encounter higher-level reading passages, requiring increased comprehension and vocabulary. It's important for students to have a solid mastery of multiplication facts , as it serves as a foundational skill for various mathematical concepts. Since there is a wide range of math topics, homework to continue practicing math skills will typically be assigned Monday-Thursday.
We recognize that this year comes with increased expectations and academic rigor. As parents, you play a vital role in supporting your child during this transition. The best way to help your student is by reading consistently at home, engaging in discussions about books, and helping with homework when needed. We encourage students to take more responsibility and accountability for their learning, behavior, and assignments with increased independence. In addition, students are now shifting from teacher pleasers to peer pleasers, so while continuing to discuss the importance of academics, please discuss how they communicate with their peers, non-violent conflict resolution, and to be a positive role model for others.
Your involvement, encouragement, and praise in your child's education are invaluable. We appreciate your partnership in your child's education and success. If your child faces any difficulties, know that I am here to work with you to make 4th grade the most successful year for them.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Sincerely,
Ms. Carter
