Richlands High School Remote Learning
In NC K-12 public schools, remote learning is defined as learning that takes place outside of the traditional school setting using various media and formats, such as but not limited to video conference, telephone conference, print material, online material, or learning management systems.
Based on recent legislation, a school district may use up to five days for remote learning. Remote learning days may be used for inclement weather, quarantine closure, school water main break, etc. The superintendent designates when remote learning is used.
A student quarantine that includes learning at-home is not considered remote learning, as defined by the state. If an entire school had to close, a remote learning day may be considered by the superintendent.
RHS REMOTE LEARNING DAY OVERVIEW
On a remote learning day, students are expected to log in to Microsoft Teams via their school 1:1 device. Classes will be in live time (synchronous). All four classes will be held, with breaks in-between, a lunch period, and a block for tutoring and teacher office hours.
- Make sure you take your laptop and charger home each day, because you never know if the next day might be a remote day.
EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES DURING REMOTE LEARNING
· Establish a daily routine that maximizes punctuality and engagement
· Engage with his or her teacher during daily check-ins
· Advocate for personal needs and additional support when needed
· Complete independent assignments and submit them by deadlines
· Keep track of completed work and assignments and turn them in to teachers at designated times
· Review communications from the district, school, and teachers to understand the available support and expectations for your student’s remote learning
·Create favorable conditions in the home to support productive student work
· Prioritize the safety and well-being of family

LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Microsoft Teams is the district-wide learning management system (LMS) for publishing instructional information online. It is highly interactive, offering instructors a central online resource to provide students with access to all of their course-related materials (e.g., lecture recordings, quizzes/exams). It also offers a robust set of features including simple site design, the ability to send announcements or hold discussions, easy incorporation of media and accessible learning analytics. The district-wide implementation of Microsoft Teams is designed to ensure consistency of teaching, learning, and equity throughout the district in all grades K-12.
