Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship
The NC Chapter of Georgetown High School Alumni Association Inc. is pleased to announce the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Celebration. Applicants must be high school seniors planning to attend an institution of higher learning in the Fall of 2022 (including trade/technical schools).

NC State: Goodnight Scholars Program
In mid-December, the Goodnight Scholars Program will issue approximately 800 invitations to apply to prospective first-year NC State students who have applied for fall 2022 admission. This invitation gives each student access to the Goodnight Scholars Program online application. The invitation is sent to the email address listed on the student’s general NC State application. The application is accessible via Pack ASSIST.
To be considered to receive an invitation to apply, a student must:
- Submit the general NC State application by November 1, 2021.
- Indicate a family income of less than $110,000 on the NC State application (confirmed via the FAFSA. See the ‘Free Application for Federal Student Aid Submission’ below.)
- Be a North Carolina resident. Refugee, DACA, and undocumented students who are living in North Carolina and will graduate from a North Carolina high school are also eligible for this scholarship.
- Select a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) major or STEM education major.
- Demonstrate a history of exceptional academic performance.
- Additional criteria may be used to address critical needs in STEM and STEM education fields and encourage diversity and inclusion per the University’s strategic plan.
Students must self-nominate by Dec. 1st, the completed application is due on Jan. 10th, 2022

Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation Scholarship for Juniors
The Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation provides a full-ride scholarship that covers tuition, room, board, and expenses for 4 years of undergraduate study. This scholarship can be used at any accredited U.S. college or University. Only current JUNIORS are eligible to apply. Applicants should be planning to enroll in college in the Fall of 2022. Applicants must read "The Autobiography of Calvin Coolidge", complete a related essay, submit 2 letters of recommendation, and submit their transcript. February Scholarships
Alzheimer's Foundation of America Essay Scholarship
In order to be eligible, the student must:
- Be a senior in high school
- Planning to attend a 4-year accredited U.S. college/university in the fall of 2021
- Submit a 1,200 to 1,500-word essay describing how Alzheimer’s disease has impacted their lives and what they have learned about themselves, their family and/or their community through their experience with Alzheimer’s
- Attach their unofficial/official high school transcript upon submitting their essay

Scholarship essays are due: Monday, February 15, 2021 by end of day.
The Historical Society of Topsail Island College Scholarship
Scholarships range from $500 to $4000. The applicant must choose a historical event that occurred in either Onslow or Pender County and present that information in the form of an essay (at least 750 words) OR an original art piece (including, but not limited to poetry, music, or drawn or painted artwork).
Applicants additionally need an unweighted GPA of 3.0, an official transcript, 2 letters of recommendation (at least one from a school official), resume (including service hours, extracurriculars, awards, etc.). I've attached the application and the requirements.

Eunice Riggins Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is open to any young woman who is currently graduating from an accredited high school in North Carolina that follows the NC Standard Course of Study, and who expects to enroll in a four-year college or university in North Carolina next fall, and who meets eligibility requirements. This is one-year (non-renewable) scholarship in the amount of $2,000.

Marine Corps Scholarship for CTE Students
The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Application for the 2021-22 academic year is now open and will close on March 2, 2021.
The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships to eligible children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen, Chaplains, and Religious Program Specialists. Our scholarships are for children pursuing a post-secondary education at any accredited school—whether that be a trade school, career training school, community college, or four-year university. We’re the Nation’s oldest and largest provider of need-based scholarships to military families. To give you an idea, this year, we awarded over $8.5 million to more than 2,750 students, and nearly 10% were CTE students!

State Employeese Credit Union (People Helping People) Scholarship
The SECU Foundation People Helping People 4-year scholarship valued at $10,000 is payable at $1,250 per semester, for a total of eight consecutive semesters. Recipients must be enrolled full-time for the entire eight consecutive semesters at one of the 16 universities in the UNC system. Recipients must continue as a full-time student in good standing.
Eligible Students:
- Graduating during the 21-22 SY
- SECU member, or the child of a SECU member
- Acceptance to a UNC system university

Marine Federal Credit Union $1,000 Scholarship for Seniors
Marine Federal Credit Union is awarding 10 scholarships of $1000 to deserving high school seniors. Qualifying student must have a 3.0 GPA, have taken the SAT/ACT, and have a parent/guardian who is a MFCU member. There is a short essay required. The deadline to submit your application is March 15th, 2021. Please use this link for more information.
Mu Lambda Zeta Chapter Annual Scholarship
The scholarship is open to female high school seniors from Onslow and Jones counties, including Camp Lejeune, ranking in the top 20 percent of her class (Rank 40 or above). The applicant must plan to obtain a Bachelor or Associate Degree from an accredited college or university; or a Diploma from a technical or trade school. Applicants may be invited to an interview at the discretion of the committee. Qualified applicants must:
- Provide 3 letters of recommendation
- Provide a photograph
- Complete the application
- Complete an essay (250-500 words)

Horatio Alger State Scholarship
State scholarships are awarded to eligible students in all fifty states and the District of Columbia. The program specifically assists high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. The scholarships are funded by Horatio Alger Members who, like the Scholars, have experienced challenges but ultimately overcame them to become successful business and civic leaders.
To be eligible to apply for a Horatio Alger State Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled full time as a high school junior in the United States
- Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)
- Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
- Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
- Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
- Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0; and
- Be a United States citizen
The undergraduate application is available from December 1, 2021 – March 15, 2022.

April Scholarships
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Tau Omega Omega Chapter
AKA Tau Omega Omega Chapter provides 3 scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to qualifying seniors. The first two awards are for college-bound seniors, the 3rd is specifically for a student planning to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). To be eligible, a student must be a resident of Onslow County and plan to attend college in the Fall of 2021.
Scholarship Requirements:
- Sealed Official Transcript
- Record of community service/Extracurricular activities/ work experience
- 350 - 400 word essay (see application for prompt)
- Explanation of Goals and Career Plans
- Two sealed letters of recommendation
- SAT/ACT scores (if applicable)
- Recent and appropriate photo (for award announcements)
Deadline for submission of all materials is April 1st, 2021. Awards will be announced in May.

Zeta Amicae Edna S. Anthony Scholarship
The committee will select one ($1000) or two ($500) winners to receive a scholarship. Students must meet the following criteria:
- Be a graduating senior
- Be a resident of DC, Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, or the United Arab Emirates
- Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.0
- Must be able to provide proof of enrollment for Fall 2021
- Provide the emails of 2 recommenders

LT. General Martin Berndt Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is intended to assist a student who is a dependant of an active duty or retired Marine who is planning on pursuing an advanced degree at either a 4-year college, community college, or an accredited trade school. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Dixon High School.

The Society of American Military Engineers
The Coastal Carolina Post, Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) intends to award up to two, four-year college scholarships valued at $2,000 each. These scholarships will be awarded to the most deserving applicants based on academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, and affiliation with SAME. Awards will be made in four equal annual increments. Awards in years two through four will be contingent on the recipient maintaining acceptable performance in their academics (GPA of 3.0 or higher) and extracurricular activities (evidence of continued and additional participation).
Qualified Applicants Must be:
- A current senior, planning to enroll in an engineering, architectural, or similar field at an accredited college/university in the 2022/23 School Year
- Must a have a 3.0 GPA or higher
- Meet at least one of the following:
a. Be a dependent of a Coastal Carolina Post SAME member or sustaining member.
b. Be sponsored by a Coastal Carolina Post SAME member or sustaining member. Note: If you do not have a SAME Member to sponsor your application, one will be appointed for you. - Provide a completed application form to include: a copy of high school transcript; a copy of SAT/ACT results; and an approximate 500-word essay.
- Arrange for scholarship application reference forms to be completed by high school advisors, academic instructors, or immediate work supervisors (maximum of 3)

Eastern Regional Directors’ Scholarship
A one-time scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded to one high school female scholar who plans to major in a STEM field of study. Qualified applicants must:
- Be a graduating high school FEMALE senior
- Be a resident of DC, Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, or the United Arab Emirates
- Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5
- Plan to major in a STEM field
- Provide a college acceptance letter
- Provide evidence of community service/involvement
- Provide the emails of 2 recommenders

The Onslow County Association of Educational Office Professionals Scholarship
The OCAEOP is proud to continue offering their annual scholarship. The award this year will be a $1000 scholarship to a deserving student who will be attending a four year college. It is required that each application be typed. Only one original application needs to be submitted at this time. The scholarship application is available for download on our website WWW.OCAEOP.org.
In addition, the local winner of our OCAEOP scholarship will have the opportunity, in the fall, to submit a new application for consideration of several NCAEOP District scholarships. Those scholarships vary from $1000 to $300. The student selected as the winner on the District level will then be submitted to the State level scholarship competition. We have had many of our local winners go on to become District winners and some even winners at the state level.
Applications are due April 6th, 2021.
Kiwanis Scholarship Application
The Kiwanis Club of Topsail Island Area, continuing its long standing commitment to the young people of Onslow County. These scholarship awards recognize academic achievement and service. The Kiwanis Foundation provides two scholarships, one for DHS seniors and the other for DHS Key Club members.
Qualifying applicants:
- Must have unweighted GPA
- Provide evidence of school and community activities/service and leadership
- Must provide an official high school transcript
- 2 letters of recommendation (1 from a faculty member)
- An Essay
- A letter of acceptance from the college you plan to attend

The Onslow County Masonic Scholarship
The Masons of Onslow County have made available a scholarship fund for the purpose of encouraging and enabling deserving young people in Onslow County to further their academic or vocational education. The Masons of Onslow County provide scholarships of $1,500 directly to the school of choice. Those eligible to apply for the scholarship are high school seniors that:
- In the top 3rd of their class (Rank ~65 or higher)
- Entering an accredited college or vocational school after graduation
- Demonstrated financial need

May Scholarships
The Jacksonville Board of Realtors
The Jacksonville Board of Realtors is offering five $1000 scholarships for the 2020-2021 school year. Applicants are limited to graduating seniors of Onslow County. The winners will be selected on the basis of financial needs, scholastic achievements, community service, and extracurricular activities.

New Bridge Middle School Scholarship
Scholarship is available to former NBMS students who are graduating from an Onslow County High School in June 2022. Students who attended NBMS and will graduate from the North Carolina School of the Arts or the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics will be considered if their permanent address is in Onslow County. Application, with attachments, must be completed, including application form, transcript, resume, three letters of recommendation, and any supporting information.

Drake Jenkins Annual Scholarship
In memory of Drake Jenkins, Dixon High School Century Club funds a scholarship to recognize DHS scholar athletes and to encourage their success in higher education pursuits. Drake Jenkins was a lifelong Dixon community member, small business owner, and an avid supporter of Dixon athletics. His life and legacy represents the value of hard work, love for family, and generosity of spirit. It is the intent of the DHS Century Club to fund two scholarships per year preferably to one female scholar athlete and one male scholar athlete. Scholarship amounts may vary based on fund balance availability, not to exceed $1,000.00. Payment of scholarship will be made to the recipient’s institution of higher education of choice provided the student enrolls as planned in the fall semester following high school graduation.

Nancy Cleveland Memorial Scholarship
The future of our country rests with the youth of today, as they will be the leaders of tomorrow. The Onslow County Republican Women’s Club is committed to supporting future female leaders who embrace and embody the conservative values and spirit of the North Carolina Republican platform: the strength of our Nation lies with the individual and each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored. One scholarship of $1,000 will be award to a female student.
This scholarship is open to female high school seniors who:
- reside in Onslow County, NC, and are legal residents of the United States of America;
- are currently attending any Onslow County public, private, charter, or home schools;
- will be attending, within the next 12 months, any university, college, or advanced technical schools.
The OCRWC Nancy Cleveland Memorial Scholarship funds will be presented in the form of a check made payable to the student and the school. These funds are to be used for higher education expensees only!Application Deadline: May 3rd, 2021
Onslow County NC Association of Educators Scholarship
Scholarships are intended to be awarded to graduating Onslow County high school seniors who plan to enter the education profession and need financial assistance. While students entering the education profession will be given priority, students entering other disciplines and in financial need will also be considered. One scholarship will also be awarded to a current college student. Recipients of the Onslow NCAE Scholarship are selected based on character, personality, interest in teaching as a profession, scholastic achievement, and financial need. Each scholarship will be in the amount of $400. A check will be written to each recipient. Scholarship winners will be notified by the end of the school year.

- Onslow County High School senior
- Demonstrated financial need
- Pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree at an accredited university
- Preference given to students pursuing education degree, though students pursuing other disciplines will be considered

Browne Scholarship for Minorities in STEM
The Browne Scholarship offers $2,000 to a student in the 2021 graduating class of Dixon High School who is pursuing a major in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics. The goal of the scholarship is to provide opportunities to underrepresented minorities (in terms of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, etc.) in the growing field of STEM.

Nettie King Memorial Scholarship
The Garden Club of New River is sponsoring a $1000 scholarship to a graduating Dixon High School senior. Preference will be given to students who will be majoring in Horticulture or an area related to the environment.

The Mu Lambda Zeta Chapter Scholarship is available to a graduating high school female senior from Camp Lejeune, Jones and Onslow counties. This is a one-time scholarship. The scholarship offers financial assistance, not to exceed the maximum of the award, to cover the cost of tuition and related expenses to a graduating high school female senior meeting the eligibility requirements. This includes enrollment as a full-time student at an accredited college or university in Fall 2022.

● Applicant must be a resident of Camp Lejeune, Jones or Onslow County
● Applicant must rank in the top 20 percentile of her class
● Official Transcript
● College/university acceptance letter(s)
● Community service and involvement are a plus
● 3 letters of recommendation - one from a teacherApplications may be mailed or submitted to Ms. Balsamo to be mailed.

June/July Scholarships
NC Pacific Arts Committee Scholarship
The North Carolina Pacific Arts Committee is offering two (2) scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Onslow County Schools. Each Scholarship will be awarded in the amount of not less that $500.00 each. These Scholarships will be presented at the 2021 NC Pacific Arts Festival on June 26, 2021.
Scholarships will be awarded based on:
- Application
- Letters
- Essay
- Application quality
- Scholastic excellence
- Community service and activities
- Letters of recommendations
- Interview by panel that is chosen by the North Carolina Pacific Arts Committee

SECU People Helping People Scholarship
SECU is awarding eight (8) scholarships to North Carolina seniors in the amount of $10,000. Students must meet the following criteria:
- have or be eligible for a SECU bank account through a family member
- maintain a 2.5 unweight GPA
- be accepted to a UNC system school
- be a resident of North Carolina
- complete the FAFSA

Horatio Alger National Career & Technical Scholarship Program
500 scholarships at up to $2,500 each
The Career & Technical Scholarship Program is funded through the generosity of Horatio Alger Association Members, Jim F. Dicke II and Dennis Washington. Scholarships are awarded to students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their lives who wish to pursue a career or technical education at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States.Eligibility Criteria:
- Have completed high school (or earned a high school equivalency credential)
- Enrolled in eligible program in Fall 2022
- Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical program (up to 2 years) at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States
- Demonstrated critical financial need (must be eligible to receive the Federal Pell grant as determined by completion of the FAFSA)
- Demonstrated perseverance in overcoming adversity
- Be under the age of 30
- Be a United States citizen
Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. All scholarship funds are paid directly to the institution on behalf of the recipient.
