• Ms. Ferguson's First Grade Class

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to Southwest Elementary!  I hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing summer. I am excited to be teaching First Grade and am looking forward to a successful year together. Please take note of the following important reminders

    School Attendance

Children begin entering the classroom at 7:45 am. Students are considered tardy if arriving after 8:15 a.m. Arriving on time ensures your child gets his/her day off to a strong start and minimizes classroom disruptions for others.

    Parent/Teacher Relationship

Parents/Guardians are the most important people in a child’s life, so it is vital that we work together for the benefit of your child. I will need your support in the academic, homework, and discipline efforts here at school. In return, I will keep you informed about all aspects of your child’s experiences at school. With school and home working together, I know that each and every student can have his or her most successful First Grade year.

    Class Dojo

All teachers at SWE will be using Class Dojo as a communication and behavior management tool. Please ensure that you check it daily to see what is happening at school and in our classroom.

Students in First Grade will have homework assignments Monday-Thursday to support the content being taught in the classroom each day. Homework assignments will consist of Reading, Word Work, and Math. Homework should remain in the homework folder throughout the week and will be collected each Friday for completion.

    School Fees

There is a $25.00 technology/laptop fee. This fee can be paid using the link on the SWE webpage and should be paid as soon as possible. The $5.00 instructional fee and a $1.00 art supplies fee have been waived this year.

    Change of Clothes

Please send in a change of clothes in the event that your child needs something to change into. The clothes will be kept at school and stored in our classroom closet.

Please send a healthy snack to school with your child each day.  We will have a snack time each morning between instruction.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I can be reached on Class Dojo, by e-mail at: Laurel.Ferguson@onslow.k12.nc.us, or by phone at 910-347-0900. In advance, thank you for your cooperation and all you do to support your child’s learning! I am thrilled to be a part of your child’s academic and social-growth experience!
