Parent & Student Cyber Safety Resources
At Onslow County Schools, we’re committed to helping families stay safe online, especially with the 1:1 Program extending learning to home. The North Carolina Parent’s Bill of Rights ensures you have a say in your child’s digital safety. Use these tips and resources to protect your family and promote responsible online behavior.

Internet Safety Tips for Families
- Supervise Young Users: Monitor younger children’s online time, especially on devices used for school, and set clear rules about approved sites.
- Time Limits: Encourage breaks from screens to balance learning and play, reducing exposure to risks.
- Safe Searches: Use search tools with safety features, like filtered results, and work with your child’s school to ensure these align with district guidelines. Avoid sharing personal info like addresses, and regularly check their browsing history.
Social Media Safety
- Privacy Settings: Help your child adjust social media accounts to private, limiting who can see their posts.
- Think Before Posting: Remind them not to share locations, school details, or photos that could identify them.
- Friend Requests: Only accept requests from people they know in real life to avoid strangers.
