The Department of Community Affairs is the link between the Onslow County School System and the public. It is charged with building and maintaining positive relationships with the community in support of the district's vision, mission and goals.

OCS Communications Recognized as NCSPRA Blue Ribbon Winner
The North Carolina School Public Relations Association (NCSPRA) has honored Onslow County Schools for excellence in communications. OCS earned a total of eight (8) Blue Ribbon Awards for outstanding and effective communication. NCSPRA presented the awards during a virtual ceremony on February 5, 2021.
OCS received Gold Awards in the following categories:
- Electronic Media - First Responder Parade
- Electronic Media - Kristina Koch Visits WOHS from ISS
- Electronic Media - AB Day Explainer
- Electronic Media - Preschool Program Initiatives
- Photography - Parent COVID Guide (Revised)
Silver Awards were received in the following categories:
- Digital Media Engagement - Thompson Best of the Best Campaign
- Electronic Media - White Oak Virtual Graduation
- Excellence in Writing - Digital Interactions
NCSPRA recognizes outstanding communications through its Blue Ribbon Awards program each year. OCS was one of 41 school districts statewide to receive a
Blue Ribbon Award. This year’s submission categories included: Marketing, Digital Media Engagement, Electronic Media, Excellence in Writing, Publications,
Image/Graphic Design, Photography, and Special Projects and Events. The Georgia School Public Relations Association judged NCSPRA’s 2020 Blue Ribbon entries.NCSPRA is a statewide professional organization serving more than 150 members. Its mission is to build support for public education through well-planned and responsible
public relations.
