Mrs. Kathryn Russell

Welcome to our class!  My hope is to make this classroom a place for the children to feel safe, confident and excited about learning!! My name is Kathy Russell, and I am excited to have the opportunity to teach your children.  Teaching has been my dream since I was six years old and has become my lifelong passion.  It is important to me that I get to know you and your family so that I can really know your child.  It is also important that you know a little something about me for you to fully entrust me with your precious one.  I was born in the old Cherry Point Naval Hospital but raised in Carteret County.   I am married to my childhood sweetheart who grew up right across the highway and cornfields from me.  I have three beautiful children and three grandchildren but sadly, none of them live in the area (so I am adopting your children. :)  My heart in life is my family and ministry.  I treasure time together creating memories sharing the laughter and the tears. I also love being outside horseback riding, bicycling, kayaking, and most of all hiking in the beautiful mountains. Professionally, I am a graduate from West Carteret High School and  from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Education degree in Special Education.  I am also a certified Wilson Reading Practioner which is an internationally acclaimed program designed for teaching children and adults with dyslexia. Throughout the past 20+ years, I have taught every grade from Pre-K to 12, three years in the general education curriculum and the rest in special education.  I have worked in school systems from the coast to the mountains with stints of time working in the mental health field.  That experience gave me the opportunity to view education from a lifelong perspective and help students to plan how the skills they are learning now will take them into their future. I hope to update this site frequently with information, links and resources that may be of help to you supporting your child's education and dreams.
