Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Steven Jones
Hello! I am an Onslow County native and grew up in Sneads Ferry where I still reside with my wife, Nicole. I have 36 years of experience in the fire service. I knew from the time I was a child that I wanted to be a firefighter. My dad was a professional firefighter and I had the privilege of going to work with him a couple of times and even got to stay in the station overnight once. I was fascinated watching the firefighters train and respond to calls. I thought to myself this must be the coolest job in the world! At the age of 14, I became a junior member of the then Sneads Ferry Volunteer Fire Department. As a high school senior, I attended evening and weekend classes where I completed my NC Firefighter certification. Upon graduation from Dixon High school, I attended CCCC and obtained an associate’s degree in Fire Protection Technology. Shortly after completing my degree, I was hired with the City of Jacksonville Fire Department. While there, I completed my bachelor’s degree through Campbell University and obtained certifications in Fire Service Instructor Level II, Emergency Medical Technician, Technical Rescuer, Wildland Firefighter, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Fire Inspector Level I. I received two lifesaving awards during my career and a meritorious unit citation. I served with the City of Jacksonville, until retiring in December of 2020 at the rank of Captain. I am excited to share my experience and passion for the fire service with my students!
