Ms. Thelia Miller

Hello! My name is Thelia Miller and I will be teaching 3rd Grade this year at Hunters Creek Elementary! I have so much excitement and enthusiasm to connect with all of my students and start my journey as a first-year teacher for OCPSS. I bring with me a diverse background filled with invaluable experiences that have shaped my passion for education and for nurturing young minds.

Before entering the Onslow County Public School System, I had the privilege of being a nanny and witnessing firsthand the incredible power of fostering trust, empathy, and a nurturing environment. It taught me the significance of creating meaningful connections with children, understanding their unique needs, and fostering an environment where they can flourish. These early experiences laid the foundation for my desire to make a positive impact on the lives of every young student. Additionally, as a tutor, I had the privilege of working with students one-on-one, identifying their strengths and areas for growth. My role as a tutor allowed me to tailor educational approaches to suit individual learning styles, emphasizing the importance of personalized learning and differentiation in reaching each student effectively.

I was a Montessori assistant teacher for one year and it has had a profound influence on my teaching philosophy. I became deeply immersed in the principles of child-centered learning, where autonomy, exploration, and hands-on experiences were at the core of the educational process. I am dedicated to helping each and every student in their individual pursuit of knowledge, encouraging their curiosity, and supporting their growth as independent thinkers. Beyond the classroom, I have been a dance teacher for over 12 years and it has reinforced the belief that education is not confined to textbooks and tests but can encompass everything a student may need to enjoy learning at their own pace.

As I step into the role of a first-year teacher, I carry with me the valuable lessons learned from each of these experiences. I am absolutely committed to fostering a learning environment that celebrates diversity, inclusivity, and respect for all individuals. I believe in the power of instilling a lifelong love for learning, empowering students to become critical thinkers, and encouraging them to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. I am overjoyed to be a part of the Hunters Creek Elementary faculty!
