Mrs. Corwin

I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. O-H-I-O!

Both of my parents were teachers. My dad coached high school and college wrestling for 49 years. My sister and I were gymnasts. My mom drove us all over to wrestling matches and gymnastics meets. We spent a lot of time in one gym or another!

I started coaching gymnastics part-time when I was 16. It became my full-time career after completing my B.A. I coached at gyms in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Eventually, I returned to Cleveland to pursue a teaching license. As soon as I finished my student teaching, I moved to California, because I could! I'm not a big fan of snow, but I love beaches and oceans.

In California, I met my husband. He's an active-duty Marine, so he had to drag me away from the beach with moves to Virginia and Arkansas. I'm very happy to be near the ocean again here in NC!

My favorite thing to do is hang out with my dog Sierra. I also enjoy reading. I always have several books going at the same time.

Education: I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education & Health at Baldwin-Wallace University in Berea, Ohio in 1991. Years later, I returned to school to pursue Early Childhood Teaching Licensure from Cleveland State University. As soon as I completed my licensure program at CSU, I moved to California. There, I attended the University of San Diego to obtain a Crosscultural, Language, and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate in order to provide effective instruction for English learners, and students with diverse learning needs. In 2014, I completed a Master of Arts in Teaching with a Specialization in Teaching and Learning in a Global Society from National University (NU). After that, I continued with coursework at NU in order to add Reading Specialization to my license. Continuing my education is very important to me.

Teaching Career: I started teaching during the 2005-2006 school year in Oceanside, California. I held a variety of positions in OUSD including substitute, long-term substitute in 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades. In 2008, I moved to the Vista Unified School District where I held positions as a 1st grade teacher and  English Language Development (ELD) Resource teacher. After moving to Virginia, I worked as an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) lead teacher for 3 years. After yet another move to Little Rock, Arkansas, I worked for 3 years as a reading intervention teacher.

Now, I am in my third year at RES, as a reading intervention teacher. I love being part of the RES family!
