Bio

My name is Courtney Rhodes Koonce. I was born and raised in the very small town of Beulaville, North Carolina.  It is the town west of Richlands.  I graduated from East Duplin High School in 2003 and from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in December of 2007.  Upon graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, I accepted a maternity leave position in kindergarten at B.F. Grady Elementary School in Duplin County.  Following that position, I was fortunate to have been hired at Richlands Primary in February of 2008 to teach a second grade class.  I taught second grade for 10 years. This year will be my first year teaching 5th grade at our new Heritage Elementary School of Richlands. I am so excited!

I got married on February 6, 2010 to Clay Koonce of Richlands.  We moved to a small neighborhood in Richlands shortly after.  We have 3 boys. Hudson is in 1st grade, and we also have twin boys, Holden and Hunter that are 2.

Education

I obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in December 2007.  I am certified to teach K-6.  I was selected to participate in a cohort in Onslow County through East Carolina University to get my licensure in Academically and Intellectually Gifted Instruction that began in the summer of 2010.  I completed the courses in July 2011 I am AIG certified! I have also been AVID trained and am the AVID site coordinator for our school. I am excited to help implement AVID schoolwide at Heritage Elementary.
