Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Kelsey Metts
Hello Richlands Community! I am a 2006 graduate of Richlands High School where I was the Vice President of my senior class. Go Wildcats! I am also a 2011 graduate from East Carolina University where I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. Go Pirates!
I mostly observed and taught at the elementary level. I originally wanted to teach high school but completely changed my mind when I observed my first elementary class and loved it! I immediately discovered where my heart was. I interned at Southwood Elementary in Lenoir County and actually started my career there as a Kindergarten Teach Assistant shortly after. This opportunity allowed me to gain more experience and knowledge within the school system. I started teaching P.E. at Richlands Primary in 2012. RPS, now HES, was my number one choice and I am so happy to be teaching here - my HOME! The students keep me on my toes and laughing every day and I love the relationships I have built. I am very proud to be a Heritage Hero!
I was born and raised in Richlands and attended Richlands Elementary, Trexler Middle, and Richlands High School. I can't imagine it any other way. Though our community and schools are changing, I will forever treasure my memories. At a very young age I started ballet and tap. I also found a love for jazz and gymnastics. I played basketball and softball for a little while, but my real passions lead me to cheerleading which I did for several years. I coached cheerleading at Richlands High School 2012-2017 and it was a great experience. My teams were amazing and did an awesome job, but what I really loved was being able to mentor and become a positive role model for young adults. I made lasting relationships that I will hold dear to my heart.
More Fun Facts:
I married my high school sweetheart in May 2011. We have two dogs and the sweetest, funniest, little girl. She is the light of our life! I love singing - especially country music. I also have a love for photography; I take WAY too many pictures! I enjoy capturing memories to look back on. If I could have a second home at the beach I would jump at the chance. There is nothing more relaxing than laying on the beach and reading a good book. Although I am a small town girl, I enjoying traveling. NYC, Nashville, and anywhere tropical have been my favorite spots!
