Bio

I am originally from eastern Kentucky, but have lived in Onslow County for the past 16 years. I am married with a son in high school and a daughter in middle school. I am also blessed with three grown step-children who live in Kentucky. In my free-time, I love being at home with my family and spending time in the great outdoors.

Education

I began the journey to becoming a teacher in Kentucky in 1999. However, I soon learned that I wanted to focus on my family first before beginning my professional life. After moving to North Carolina, I finished my AA degree at Coastal Carolina Community College before transferring to UNCW. I graduated magna cum laude with my Bachelor's in Elementary Education in December 2015. The lesson I hope to impart from this is that even if things don't go as originally planned, it is never too late to become the leader you want to be.  You just have to make a plan and stick to it. Persistence and determination pay off!

Experience

Immediately after graduating, I was given my first teaching opportunity at the same school and grade level as my internship. I was a fifth grade long-term substitute for several months. After completing that assignment, I finished out the 15-16 school year as a long-term substitute in fourth grade at Silverdale. I began the 16-17 school year as a long-term substitute at Silverdale in third grade. From there, I long-term subbed as a Pre-K teacher at two different schools. In January 2017, I was offered an interim contract at Silverdale to finish out the school year as a K-2 EC teacher. I happily accepted the position, but I realized my professional life would never feel complete if I did not have my “own” class someday. Thus, I was thrilled when Silverdale offered me a position in first grade. I am excited to begin year six teaching first grade. During this time, I have served as grade chair for five years, data team facilitator for three, and teacher of the year for one.
