Ms. Paredes

I am a native of North Carolina and a true native of Onslow County.  True natives are few and far between.  I have lived my entire life in Onslow County except for the ten years that I lived in Myrtle Beach, SC, where I worked at Coastal Carolina Hospital, which later was named Charter Sands.  I am excited to live back in NC.  I enjoy Swansboro and its surrounding areas because of the small town feeling it provides for raising children.  I enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, scrapbooking (when I can find the time), movies, going to the pool, and just about anything my son and I can find to do.  We both enjoy new adventures.  Some of our adventures center around traveling as far away as Singapore, traveling to California and Hawaii, as well as traveling to many places within the NC border.  My son and I enjoy activities that are new to us, such as snowboarding for my son, and snow tubing for me,.  Visiting with friends and taking part in what is available in the surrounding areas is our greatest adventure.  We do enjoy family time and time spent with friends.

  • Graduate of Swansboro High School.

Bachelor's Degree recipient in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington

Teaching Certificate recipient in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington

Master's Degree recipient in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington

  • During my first year following my bachelor's degree, I worked at The Caswell Center in Kinston, NC.  I worked with a diverse population of individuals through the adapted aquatics program and the horticulture program.  During my second year out of college, I took a job with a Psychiatric Hospital in Conway, SC and worked there for the next ten years.  During my career as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, I thought about changing careers and becoming an elementary teacher.  I began my schooling at a university in SC and moved back to NC just prior to finishing my degree and finished my teaching requirements at UNC-W.  I began teaching in the 2000-2001 school year and am now beginning my seventeenth year of teaching at Swansboro Elementary.  I have taught both 3rd and 4th grade during these years.  When I was growing up, I attended this very school and completed my 4th, 5th and 6th grade years here as it was our middle school back then.  I not only enjoy teaching young minds here at Swansboro Elementary, but I feel at home here and have enjoyed coming back to the very school that provided me with my early educational experiences.  I look forward to a new and exciting year.
