Ms. Paredes

I am a North Carolina as well as an Onslow County native.  I have lived in Onslow County for the majority of my years except while attending college and working my first career.  During my time away from North Carolina, I worked in Myrtle Beach, SC, where I worked at an inpatient psychiatric hospital as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Soecialist (CTRS).  I am excited to be living back in NC, especially here in the beautiful coastal town of Swansboro.  Its small town feeling provided a great place to raise my son.  I enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, reading, amusement parks, watching movies and my favorite TV shows, going to the beach, and most anything involving my son.  We both have enjoyed new adventures and traveling to see some of the world's beautiful places.  Some of our adventures have centered around traveling as far away as Singapore, traveling to California and Hawaii, as well as traveling to many places within the state of NC, especially the mountains.  My son and I have enjoyed activities that were new to us, snowboarding for my son, snow tubing for me and white water rafting for the both of us.  Visiting with friends and taking part in what is offered in the surrounding areas has been our greatest pleasure. My son is grown now, but our enjoyment in traveling and activites continues.

Experience

  • During my first year following my bachelor's degree, I worked at The Caswell Center in Kinston, NC.  I worked with a diverse population of individuals through the adapted aquatics program and the horticulture program.  During my second year out of college, I took a job with a Psychiatric Hospital in Conway, SC and worked there for the next ten years.  During my career as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), I thought about changing careers and becoming an elementary teacher.  I began my schooling at a university in SC and moved back to NC just prior to finishing my degree and finishing my teaching requirements at UNC-W.  I began teaching in the 2000-2001 school year and am now beginning my twenty-third year of teaching. All twenty-three years thus far have been with Swansboro Elementary.  I have taught both 3rd and 4th grade during my time here.  Growing up, I attended this very school and completed my 4th, 5th and 6th grade years here as it was middle school back then. I completed all my schooling at the Swansboro schools and graduated from Swansboro High School in my father's time as principal of SHS.  How awesome it is to have my high school diploma signed by my father.  I not only enjoy teaching young minds here at Swansboro Elementary, but I feel at home here and have enjoyed coming back to the very school that provided me with my early educational experiences.  I look forward to this school year.
