Degrees and Certifications:
Sheila G. Dunlap
Education: Bachelor's of Science: State University of New York at Fredonia - 1998
Experience: After college, I volunteered with AmeriCorps which is often called "a domestic Peace Corps." I served with Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. a non-profit agency that had a grant addressing literacy development in at-risk areas. After completing a year-long enrollment with them, I was hired by the agency as an Adult Program Professional. In this capacity, I tutored adult learners who were working for their GED's and also helped them develop learning activities for their children. Although this was rewarding and I enjoyed being the facilitator and "cheerleader" for adult learners, after five years, I knew that I wanted to be in the classroom working with young children.
I accepted a position with Onslow County Schools. My first class was at Richlands Elementary. I transferred to Queens Creek in August of 2005 and moved to Thompson Early Childhood Center in August 2011.
I enjoy being part of the young students' first experiences in the school environment. They come to school eager to make friends and learn new skills. It is a privilege to be part of that discovery process.
Bio: I was born and raised in western New York State. I have also lived in the mountain country of central Pennsylvania. I first attended college in the 1970's but left after two years to raise my family. I worked a variety of jobs in the production and service fields while raising three sons. In 1995, I had the opportunity to return to college where I was able to complete my life-long goal of achieving my teaching degree.
