Hello, Bulldogs! My name is Laura Walkup. I am the Exceptional Children's lead teacher and 8th grade inclusion teacher at Dixon Middle School. I have worked in special education since 2002 in North Carolina. I work with the wonderful general education teachers here at Dixon Middle. Together, we collaborate to meet the individual learning goals of each student while supporting students to access the general curriculum. We work to create lessons to meet the unique needs of our students within the whole group. Together we modify assignments and projects as needed to meet the personal academic needs of students in order to implement the Individualized Education Plan (IEP). I completed my undergraduate degree at Appalachian State University in Special Education and my master's degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Curriculum and Supervision. I have five beautiful children of my own that keep me on my toes and my heart full! Like you, my children attend Dixon schools, so I am not only professionally, but also personally invested in our school community.
