I was born here in Onslow County and have lived here most of my life. I have been teaching for 33 years with the last 19 being here at DMS. I am married and have one son who is studying Earth and Environmental Science at UNC Charlotte.
I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2020, exactly one week after COVID restrictions took place. Going through chemotherapy, a bilateral mastectomy, and 30 rounds of radiation was the toughest battle I have ever faced. In July 2021, the doctors found a cancerous lesion in my brain, so in August I had brain surgery to remove the lesion and 6 more rounds of radiation on my head to make sure it was gone. By the grace of God, I am free of cancer! My doctors call me a walking miracle, and my friends and family call me a warrior. I am happy to call myself a survivor!
