Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Mark Stiffler
I graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Oceanography. I completed the "Teacher Ready" teaching certification program through the University of West Florida.
I was an officer in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years. After retirement I became certified to teach middle school math and science.
This is my second year teaching. Last year I taught 8th grade Math and Science here at Hunters Creek Middle School.
I am originally from Monroeville, PA which is about 15 miles outside of Pittsburgh. Yes, I am a huge Steeler Fan. (Sorry Baltimore and Cleveland parents) I attended high school at Gateway Senior High in Monroeville and played football, wrestled, and threw shot put, discus, and javelin on the track team. After graduating from high school, I was accepted in the United States Naval Academy, where I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Oceanography. Upon graduation I accepted a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. I served as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer during my career. After 20 years and many duty stations across the globe, I decided to change career paths. I retired from the glorious Marine Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2016. During my last year of active duty I completed a teacher certification program and was hired to teach at Hunters Creek Middle School.
My wife, Kerstin, and I have two children, Zachary and Kailyn. Both of our children attended HCMS and are now high schoolers at White Oak. You may see us from time to time at the football games or soccer games as Kailyn is a member of the Marching Vikings and soccer team and Zachary is a goal keeper for the varsity soccer team.
