Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Mark Stiffler
I graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Oceanography. I completed the "Teacher Ready" teaching certification program through the University of West Florida.
I was an officer in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years. After retirement I became certified to teach middle school math and science.
This is my fourth year teaching. Last year I taught 7th grade Math and Science here at Hunters Creek Middle School.
I am originally from Monroeville, PA which is about 15 miles outside of Pittsburgh. Yes, I am a huge Steeler Fan. (Sorry Baltimore and Cleveland parents) I attended high school at Gateway Senior High in Monroeville and played football, wrestled, and threw shot put, discus, and javelin on the track team. After graduating from high school, I was accepted in the United States Naval Academy, where I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Oceanography. Upon graduation I accepted a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. I served as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer during my career. After 20 years and many duty stations across the globe, I decided to change career paths. I retired from the Marine Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2016. During my last year of active duty I completed a teacher certification program and was hired to teach at Hunters Creek Middle School.
My wife, Kerstin, and I have two children, Zachary and Kailyn. Both of our children attended HCMS My son is currently a Senior at White Oak High School. You may see us from time to time at the White Oak boys soccer games as Zachary is the goal keeper for the varsity soccer team. Kailyn Graduated from White Oak and is currently a sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill.
I also coach the Hunters Creek Wrestling Team and Boys Soccer Team.
