Mrs. Emily Fanning

I am a Digital Learning and Teaching Facilitator at Dixon Middle School and Dixon High School.  Go Bulldogs!

I grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina in a small town called Brevard. My home county is known as the "Land of the Waterfalls," and it is absolutely beautiful, especially in the fall.

I graduated from WESTERN CAROLINA UNIVERSITY in May of 2011. GO CATAMOUNTS!! I have a double degree, a Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences Education and a Bachelor of Science in History. I completed my AIG certification in July of 2017, through East Carolina University (GO PIRATES!), to add gifted education to my teaching license. I received my masters' degree from THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT WILMINGTON (GO SEAHAWKS!) in Instructional Technology in May of 2022.

I moved to Onslow County in October of 2011 when I accepted a teaching job at Jacksonville Commons Middle School. I taught 6th grade Language Arts and Social Studies there for 5 years. I transferred to Southwest Middle School in 2016 when my husband and I moved out to Sneads Ferry. In my five years at SWMS, I taught 6th and 7th grade Language Arts/Social Studies, the AVID Elective, I was an AVID Site Coordinator and was chosen as Teacher of the Year for the 2020-2021 school year. I was blessed to represent SWMS as a top 5 finalist for Onslow County Schools Teacher of the Year. 

I am a fur mama to a blue tick beagle named Willard and a retriever mix named Gracie! I am also the momma to the most amazing 4-year-old, Jacob!
