I am from the foothills of North Carolina, near Winston-Salem.  I'm a proud alumnus of Catawba College and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.  During graduate school, I served as a teacher for Writers in Action as well as a Teaching Assistant for college-level creative writing courses.  For the past three years, I have directed a summer camp called Young Writers Week for UNCW, which allows high school students to act as writers-in-residence on the main campus.  This is my second year at Swansboro High School, and I am proud to be a Pirate!  I'm currently reading through Ron Rash's works.  My last indulgence was his novel, The World Made Straight.  He's an incredible author, and lives and teaches in North Carolina! I am constantly inspired by Milton's Paradise Lost and the poems of Raymond Carver and Diane Gilliam Fisher.  If I'm not teaching, reading, or writing, I'm trying to catch a fish!
