lementary Battle of the Books is a program sponsored by the North Carolina School Library Media Association to promote reading and to expose students to quality literature.

A team, of fourth and fifth grade students, is selected to compete in a county wide competition.  The team is usually six to eight people, but can be up to twelve.

Student's are selected on a try-out basis.  They are given a novel to read in a two week time period.  Then, on a designated day, they take a quiz related to that book.

Please understand this is a commitment on your child’s part.  There are 15 books on the novel list next year. There will be meetings at least once a week until 3:00 pm on Tuesdays.

Elementary Battle of the Books is in addition to what students will be doing in class but it will offer them an opportunity to stretch themselves and to explore a variety of wonderful literature.
