National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society at Hunters Creek Middle School honors excellence, leadership, and character. Students apart of the organization must maintain 93% average and complete the required amount of community service hours. Students must complete 10 in school hours and 10 out of school hours.
NJHS students are also responsible for various projects in the school. NJHS sponsors the Pennies for Patients fundraiser in February. We work with SGA for the Panther Feast food drive in the fall. In the past, we have teamed up with CAPS (Carolina Animal Protection Society) to do Pet Pictures with Santa in December. NJHS students help at our school in many ways including, but not limited to, 5th grade orientation and music introduction, Odyssey of the Mind try outs, ball boy/girl at soccer games, and book inventory helpers at the close of the year.
At the end of the 3rd 9weeks 7th grade students' grades will be reviewed. If a 7th grade student has a 93% average for the first semester and a 93% average for the 3rd nine weeks, the student will be invited to apply to for admittance into the NJHS. Students will be given a form to fill out and will have to write responses to short answer questions. That information, along with teacher recommendations, are given to the Faculty Council for review. The decision will be madein May. The induction ceremony will occur in at the end of May.
In past years NJHS teamed up with SGA to participate in the U-ACT program. We supported SGA through the program by participating in Pet photos, Valentines for local rest homes, toiletry drive for the USO as well as our normal projects.
