Mr. Stephen Maxwell
I was born and raised in Richlands, North Carolina, where I graduated from Richlands High School in 1993. As a child, I was into fantasy worlds and drawing. My teachers always remarked that I was a constant daydreamer. I didn't become a reader until seventh grade, when my reading class did an author study on Edgar Allan Poe. It was the first time where something I liked, other than art, was legitimized at school. From that point on, I was hooked on reading.
I began my teaching career as an English and Language Arts teacher, and later a Media Coordinator in Kinston, North Carolina. I started here at Northwoods in 2012. Throughout my twenty year career, I have taught every grade from kindergarten through eighth grade in some capacity.
I have been happily married for twenty years, do not have any children of my own, but have two cats named Penny and Thor. I've had a cat ever since I can remember. My work schedule is hectic, so I enjoy spending my off-time at home in the peace and quiet of Comfort, North Carolina, just outside of Richlands. I am a tireless musician, reader (particulary of ancient and medieval European history), genre film enthusiast, and gamer. Despite being 46 years old and earning two college degrees, I'm still a daydreamer who simply enjoys sharing what I love through education.
