I am a native of Onslow County and a product of Onslow County Schools. I was raised in Richlands and graduated from Richlands High School. Upon graduation from High School I attended Atlantic Christian College now known as Barton College. I am from a family of East Carolina Pirates and after a year at Atlantic Christian transferred to ECU. I graduated with a degree in Special Education and recieved training from Division TEACCH. My career in education began in Greenville NC at Elmhusrt Elementary. I taught students with Autism, worked closely with Division TEACCH to provide training in classroom structure and behavior. During this time I worked with several different countries as they sent representatives to learn about educating students with Autism. Some of the representatives I had the pleasure to work with were from Germany, Japan, Holland other areas.
I returned to Onslow County and began working at Thompson Elementary School in the role as a teacher for students with Autism. I then began work in the Occupational Course of Study at Dixon High School and Richlands High School. I was involved in working with our county to develop and implement the Ocuupational Curriculum. This was very exciting and rewarding.
I worked as an Exceptional Childrens' Program Specialist. My role in this area changed many times from Educational Assessments, compliance monitor, coach and Autism Specialist for the county. After obtaining my masters in school administration I served Hunters Creek Elementary School as the Assistant Principal for six years.
