Hi Families! I am excited to be teaching your child this year! I am new to the Carolina Forest family, however not so new to the world of education. Education has been a part of my life for the last seventeen years. I began my teaching journey through the Watson School of Education at UNCW where I received a BA in Elementary Education. I began my first full year of teaching at Richlands Elementary School in third grade and continued to do so for seven years. I had some of the best experiences and colleagues during this time and when the time came for change, it was a little more difficult than I had anticipated.
In 2011, an opportunity came my way to take on the position of a Training & Curriculum Specialist working with military children and families from Camp Lejeune and New River Air Station. I was in this position for seven years, whereupon I had a brand new set of experiences serving the military. I am forever grateful for the time I spent with the military families as they are an extremely important part of our surrounding communities. There was a lot to learn about resilience and dedication in a different setting. It was so easy to fall in love with my colleagues, teachers, and families. However circumstances most often play a role in the decisions we make. My daughter had attended the Child Delopment Centers on base from the time she was seven weeks old, and this year, turned five years old and ready to start kindergarten. I could not shake the thought of coming back to the classroom and having the same schedule as my daughter. So.... here I am, ready for another change, although familiar this time!
I mentioned my daughter who attends CFIE with me. I also have two grown sons, 30 and 27, both of which has extended our family with a grand daughter and a brand new grand son! I am a wife, mother, sister, aunt, Gigi, educator, lover of the beach, family traditions, live music, and mentoring others in education! Originally from Savannah, Ga., I have lived in Richlands for the last twenty-four years. That makes me a small town girl and I wouldn't want it any other way!
