Mrs. Darlene Barbee
I was born and raised in Richlands, North Carolina. I attended all Richlands schools and graduated from Richlands High School in 1974. I met my husband while attending high school and we married on August 17, 1975. My husband, Reid Barbee, and I have two children, Sarah and Kelly. I have six grandchildren; three live beside me and three live in Birmingham, Alabama. I have been fortunate enough to have lived in Alaska and Bermuda. What a difference in climates!!! I attended Coastal Carolina Community College and then transferred to UNC-Wilmington and earned by B.A. in Elementary Education. I started my teaching career at Roger B. Chaffee School in Bermuda. Upon moving back home to Richlands, I continued my teaching career at Northwoods Elementary School. After one year, I transferred to Southwest Middle School where I taught for five years. I then transferred to Richlands High School as an Exceptional Children's Teacher. I remained with special education until my retirement in November, 2016. I returned to the educational system in 2017 as an English Language Tutor. I had the wonderful opportunity to return "home" to RHS in the fall of 2018 as a part-time EC teacher. I currently teach for two class periods (2nd and 3rd) called Support for Interventions. This class is designed to allow each student the opportunity to work on core academic assignments while providing additional help in the areas of reading, writing, and math.
