Degrees and Certifications:
Hello Families and Students,
This is a difficult time for all of us, but we are going to get through this together! I miss seeing my kiddos everyday, but together we can make sure that they are growing and learning the best they can while staying safe at home. Every week I will be posting daily lessons within this page. I am always available on Class Dojo, and I will continue to communicate news and updates with you as well. My specific office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00A.M.-10:00A.M. and 2:00P.M.-3:00P.M. If for some reason you cannot download or log on to Class Dojo, feel free to email me at email@example.com.
LATEST UPDATES FROM CLASS DOJO
And just like that, we're out for the summer! It has been an absolute pleasure having each and every one of your children in my class this year. I am very upset that our time was cut short, but the memories will stay with me forever! I know that all of my kids will do fantastic next year.
I hope you have an amazing summer. Next stop... THIRD GRADE!!
Happy last week of second grade (& Happy Monday)!!
As we are coming to the last day of school, there are a few important reminders to share:
**Thursday, June 4th, is the last day of school and Report Card Pickup. There will be a table set up in the school's lobby for you to come pick up your child's report card for this year (there are also other goodies inside the report card as well!).
**Students who owe any missing or overdue library books will not be able to receive their report cards on Thursday, June 4th. Monday, June 1-Wednesday, June 3: If your child is missing a library book, it will need to be returned or paid for this week. I have notified those who owe books, but I will remind you again this week if this pertains to you.
If you have any further questions or concerns in regards to report card pickup or owing overdue library books, please message me directly.
Have a fantastic day!
I am proud to announce that our class was awarded with the greatest level of event participation among all 2nd grade classes for the 2020 Virtual Field Day event!!!
Thank you to everyone who participated! It was great to see your smiling faces on flipgrid.
I miss you all very much!!
Due to the fact that Monday, May 25, is a holiday, the last packet pick-up for students will be on Tuesday, May 26. Students will be given their last set of work for this academic school year on Tuesday, and this is also the time to drop off any work that they have completed. In addition to a drop-off box for completed work, there will be a box to turn in any overdue library books that your child still has!
If you have any questions or concerns, please email or message me directly on ClassDojo.

Good afternoon Parents,
Just another friendly reminder that Monday, May 11th, is the next pick-up and drop-off day for packets. New packets will be put outside at 8:00 A.M., and they will be left there overnight for your convenience. There will be a basket for you to place any completed work that your child has done as well.
If you have any questions or concerns in regards to this, please contact me through Class Dojo or Email and I'll be happy to help!
Sometimes it is hard to know how your child is truly feeling, especially with all the craziness going on around us. I have attached a "SpongeBob Feelings Chart" on my teacher web-page, located under the Additional Links, Resources, & Videos tab. This feelings chart can be used as a check-in with your child every morning!
This is a fun way to connect with students to see how their feeling, and can be used as a gateway to talking about some of their emotions. I hope you like it!
Good morning everyone,
I cannot believe that we are already entering our 6th week of remote learning! This weeks lesson plans are located in the packet that you collected last week. However, if you misplaced the paper-copy of the lesson plans, you can locate them through my teacher web-page, under the tab titled "Weekly Lesson Plans."
If your child has completed their work early and you have access to a computer, phone, ipad, etc., please use this time to get them onto their iReady Math and Reading Lessons.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me! Also, make sure to stay tuned on Class Dojo for mini-video lessons throughout the week.
Good afternoon Parents/Guardians,
I just wanted to give you a friendly reminder about the importance of getting your child onto iReady for additional math lessons and practice. It is recommended that students get onto iReady for at least 45 minutes a week in order to make sure that they are making growth.
I know that not everyone is able to get onto iReady, however, if you do have access to an iPad, tablet, computer, or phone it is important to try to get your child on in order to complete the lessons. If you do not remember how to get onto iReady, please click on this link: http://clever.com/in/Onslow/. Once you click on it you will be brought to a page that asks for your child's username and password. If your child does not remember their login credentials, please refer to the vanilla colored folder that you received from me at the start of remote-learning, and you will find a paper with their login-information for Clever. If you cannot locate this paper, please message me directly and I will get this information to you as soon as possible.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns!

Good morning everyone!
As you already know, packets are currently available outside of the school for you to pick up for the next few weeks of virtual learning. Packets will be available all day! Also, this is the day to drop off all completed packets that your child has done-- I can't wait to see all their hard work!
My teacher web-page is also updated with the new lesson plans for Weeks 5 and 6 of virtual learning. On my web-page you can also find updates and helpful links for students to use while learning at home.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to message me on Class Dojo or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org!
I wanted to give a HUGE SHOUT OUT to all students who handed in their "Weeks 1 & 2, Math and ELA" packets!
You all did a fabulous job and I am so proud of all your hard work. It makes me so happy to see that you are all trying your best and getting your work done! Keep up the great work!
I miss you and hope to be back in the classroom soon!
I cannot believe that we are already half way through our 4th week of virtual learning. Students should be finishing up "Week 4" within their packet, so that this can be handed in next week for grading. Monday, April 27th, is the next day to drop off completed packets and pick-up the new packet for Weeks 5 & 6. New packets will be put out at 8:00 A.M., and they will be there until the following morning so that you can go to the school based on your own personal schedule.
If you have any questions or concerns in regards to packet drop-off or pick-up, please do not hesitate to ask! I hope you are all staying safe and healthy.
Just a friendly reminder to make sure that you are checking our Class Story on Dojo everyday to see the latest Mini-Lesson Videos and helpful images that I post for you to use when working with your child. If for some reason you cannot get onto Class Dojo, most of my videos and all of my pictures will be on this web-page underneath the Additional Links, Resources, and Videos tab!
If you have any other questions in regards to lesson plans or concerns in regards to virtual learning, please feel free to email me at email@example.com! Although we can't be together in person, I am only a message away.
Good morning and happy third week of virtual learning!
I have sent each of you a picture of your child's spelling words for the next five weeks (the weeks of April 14, April 20, April 27, May 4, and May 11) through Class Dojo. These are the words that I would be quizzing students on each week, so you may do the same! I suggest setting a schedule for what activity your child will be completing for practice every day, and then quiz them on their knowledge of these words on Friday. Below is the schedule that we followed in our classroom if you would like to keep it the same at home:
- Monday: Red, White, & Blue - with a blue colored pencil, red colored pencil, and regular pencil, write your words three times each.
- Tuesday: Rainbow Write- pick five colors of your choosing and write each of your spelling words 5 times each.
- Wednesday: ABC Order- write all of your spelling words in ABC order.
- Thursday: Sentence Writing- write a sentence for each of your spelling words! Make sure to write the spelling word in a different color or underline it so it stands out.
After assessing your child on Friday, please send me a picture on Class Dojo so that I can see how their hard work paid off!
Good morning! I have created a SplashLearn account for our class so students can practice important math concepts and play math games right at the comfort of your home! Please follow these steps in order to get started:
1. Go to www.splashlearn.com
2. When asked where you will be using SplashLearn, click: CLASS
3. Enter our class code: ZDPGHU
4. Enter your child's individual password to get logged in!
Please make sure that you are allowing for your child to get their 15 minutes of iReady Math and Reading Lessons a day, and use this as an additional resource if you would like. Have a great rest of your day!
4/6/2020 @ 9:00 A.M.:
Happy second week of virtual learning!
It is Onslow County's Virtual Spirit Week this week! In order to participate in spirit week, you may upload your photo's to twitter with the hashtag: #PIPOnslow. If you do not have a twitter account, you can send your photo's to Dr. Patterson through Class Dojo and she will make sure to upload the photos to twitter daily. Make sure you check out our School's Story on Class Dojo in order to see the schedule of what to wear everyday this week.
I hope you can all join in on the fun!
Please continue to check Class Dojo daily for reminders and important news for our class as well.
Good afternoon Parents & Students,
If you are connected to Class Dojo please make sure to check out our "Class Story." At least once a week I am going to post myself reading a story from this past school year (particularly ones that were our class favorites!). I have recently posted a read-aloud of "The Boy Who Cried Fabulous" by Leslea Newman. This silly and fun story was read a few months ago, and our class loved it!
Please continue to check Class Dojo daily for reminders and important news as well.
I know that this is a very stressful and frustrating time, but we are all in this together! While we are working together to make sure that your children get the best education possible during this remote learning time, the second grade team has provided each child with materials for the next few weeks. When you pick up your child's belongings today, 3/30/2020, you will find a vanilla-colored envelope in their bag-- within this envelope you will find their report cards, letter from me, an At-Home-Reading packet, a Math Review packet, their log-in information for specific websites (including iReady Math), and spelling words that they should be able to read on-sight and practice spelling. For the next two weeks each student should complete two activities a day from their Reading packet and their Math packet. When you come back to Clyde Erwin ES to retrieve the next set of work for your students (in two weeks), you may hand these completed packets in for me to check and grade.
For those who have access to a computer, laptop, tablet, or phone please take advantage of this and have your child get onto iReady Math Lessons! It would be ideal for students to complete at least 15 minutes of iReady lessons 3 days a week, but more time is always encouraged.
Class Dojo will be our main form of communication, and I am always here if you have any additional questions or would like additional support. Besides communicating with you through Class Dojo, I will be utilizing my Teacher Webpage by posting resources, links, news, etc.
Please let your children know that I miss them terribly, and I wish that we could be in class learning together-- But I will see them soon! Stay safe and healthy, and please reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have-- no question is a silly question!
- Monday, May 18: Inside-Out Day (wear all clothes inside out)
