Welcome to Our Kindergarten Classroom

Hello, my name is Ms. Patty Broughton and I'm delighted to be your child's Kindergarten teacher.  My assistant's name is Mr. Frank Lucas. Our goal is to get to know your child on a personal level, provide a nurturing environment, and provide a variety of educational activities that will motivate, inspire, and help your child achieve academic success in Kindergarten. I believe children learn best through play.  I will make sure they have fun while learning. Since, I know you are the most important person in your little one’s life, I invite you to be my partners in the education of your child. Your job is to simply assist your child with the daily homework activities and communicate with me whenever necessary any comments, concerns, or questions. Your job will also be to assist me with any behavioral problems that may arise.   By working together, we will be able to reach your child's maximum potential.  I have high expectations for my Kindergarten students and I know this will be a successful and rewarding school year for your child as we play, learn, and grow together.

When I was in the first grade, my family moved from Alabama to North Carolina, therefore, I call North Carolina my home.  I have been blessed in my life to have loving and supportive friends and family.  My parents still live local and I enjoy being with them as much as possible. I have 3 sons and two wonderful daughters-in-law.  Two of my sons are grown and on their own and have blessed me with 7 grandchildren.  My youngest son graduated from Richlands High School in 2014. I love southern cooking and lots of fried chicken and pork chops, grilling steaks, hamburgers, and hotdogs out and eating at fine restaurants, (like Olive Garden), cleaning, decorating, (favorite store is KIRKLANDS) and being home babysitting or just watching a good movie with my family and friends. I also enjoy the outdoor life, boating, swimming, crabbing, and fishing.  The beach is my favorite place to be. It is where I find serenity.  My favorite food is seafood.  I look forward to oyster season each year at Jordan's Seafood.   I love wind chimes and fancy decorated birdhouses.  I love puppy dogs and kittens.  I have two fish and hope to one day have a wall aquarium in my home.
