    Hello Parents!
We hope this finds you and your family well. Here at CFIE our team is busy preparing assignments and activities for your 4th grader to keep their learning moving forward. Online instruction is set to begin on Wednesday, March 18. We are not ready to send out all the assignments just yet. Please be on the lookout for an email that will include assignments for the rest of the week. This list of assignments will also be posted on our class website (link below).
Students already know what sites they can access to help practice math and reading skills. These sites can be used for ADDITIONAL practice but will not be required (Prodigy, Cool Math Games, Reading Eggspress, GetEpic, etc...) This is just a quick start of ideas; we will be in touch soon with more assignments.
CFIE will be open today (March 16) from 10–3 only if you need the following items:
    • Medicines that are here with the nurse.
    • Clothing or other personal items.
    • The library will be checking out books, come to the back door of the library if you are interested in getting some books to read during this time of online instruction
Again, please be on the lookout for an assignment email coming soon. These assignments will be sent to parents and students. The expectation will be that students should be checking their email and Microsoft Teams daily beginning Wednesday, March 18.

Make-up for pictures will be this Friday. Tomorrow, 2/24/20 will be the in-house field trip. If you haven’t sent in the permission slip and money for this, please do so tomorrow. Also, please continue sending in permission and money for the Sturgeon City field trip if you haven’t already done so. On Friday, students can bring in electronics for an electronics day they earned with the Apex fund raiser. Please make sure they have their names on them somewhere. Please take time to go to Chick-fil-a on Wednesday from 5-8 pm to help support JDRF and Dylan’s Diabetes Destroyers. Please let employees know at the register that you are there for Dylan. Thank you in advance for your support with this great cause.

This week in ELA students will finish up their studies on prose, poems and dramas. They will test on these three things on Friday. Students are still learning and working on persuasive writing pieces. Students will continue with the same vocabulary words from last week. We have also started using a site called Spelling City. I am assigning lists on this site and students will be given spelling assignments there as well. They will have 10 assignments to complete per list. They will be given time in class and at home to work on these. They will have a week to get them done.

In Math students will test on long division Tuesday and will start learning about fractions after that.

In Social Studies they will be learning about European exploration and the Lost Colony.

Tomorrow students will be taking the 2nd benchmark in ELA. Please make sure students have fully charged laptops and are at school on time. We will be testing in the morning around 9:00. Testing will last approximately 2 hours. Report cards will be going home with students on Wednesday January 29th. Please sign and return the envelope.

On February 4th we will be kicking off the Apex Fun Run. Last year students had a great time with this. My class won first place in this event last year and I would love to do the same this year. PTO will also be selling friendship grams for Valentine’s Day. They will be selling slap bracelets for $.50 each. Our PTO is also in need of new board members as they will all be leaving next year. Please consider serving in one of the positions.

This week in ELA, students will be learning about figurative language. To go along with this lesson all 4th grade students will be participating in an “idiom day” on February 7th. Students can look up different idioms and dress up as on of those. Pinterest has great ideas. Look for more information concerning this soon. We are going to begin reading In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson. Students will have vocabulary words this week from that book.

In writing we are beginning to work on persuasive writing. Students will be making a commercial in which they will “sell” an everyday classroom item to the rest of the class using persuasive words.

In Math we are still working on double digit multiplication. We will finish this up this week and testing by Friday. Please continue having students practice their multiplication facts at home.

In Social Studies students will be learning about government and European Exploration.

Tomorrow students will be taking the second benchmark for Math in iReady. They will be testing in the morning around 10:30, so please make sure students are on time and well rested. This is a benchmark and is not graded. It will give me more information on student data and growth. Also, students need to have fully charged laptops as this test is online.

Tomorrow kicks off the JDRF paper sneaker drive, sneakers are $1 each. Students can buy as many as they would like.

They can leave binders at home and bring electronics. Please label your child’s belongings. Also, please make sure everything they bring can fit in their backpacks.
