Welcome Back Message

Superintendent and students at Parkwood Elementary

Dear OCS Family,

On behalf of Onslow County Schools, welcome to the new school year! We are excited to get the year underway and look forward to the many opportunities and challenges ahead.

Over the summer, our dedicated staff were hard at work preparing for the return of our students. Teachers and instructional support staff conducted summer programs for our students and participated in professional development. Our Human Resources team hired new teachers and staff to ensure positions were filled. School and district Maintenance staff were busy cleaning and preparing facilities, while Transportation and Child Nutrition staff ensured buses and cafeterias were ready for today. The Instructional Technology team was busy preparing thousands of student and teacher laptops for the start of school.

Our school and central office staff all played a crucial role in ensuring our schools were ready to welcome students back. Their commitment to excellence and their tireless efforts are truly appreciated.

This past year saw the implementation of our “Raise the Bar” campaign. We are awaiting final official accountability results from last year; however, there are indications that the district has made gains in student learning. These successes are the foundation for continued student success and demonstrate the outstanding commitment each of our staff has to our students.

Along with our continued focus on instruction, we remain committed to providing a safe learning environment for students and staff. To enhance school safety, we have implemented Evolv Weapons Detection Systems in high schools and installed vape detectors in middle and high school bathrooms. These measures will help detect threats and prevent harmful substance use, adding another layer to our security planning and contributing to a secure and focused learning environment for all.

We wish to express our sincere thanks to our staff for their hard work and commitment last school year and for everything they've done to prepare for the new one. We are proud of the support from our community, which enables us to offer numerous opportunities for our students. As this new school year begins, we encourage parents and community members to seek ways to get involved by volunteering at a school or becoming a mentor. Helping a child is always time well spent.

We look forward to strengthening and expanding existing parental and community partnerships and developing new ones to provide even more opportunities for our students from kindergarten through graduation.

Thank you for your continued support, and let's make this school year the best one yet!
