OCS Hosts Excellence in Education Celebration

Dr. Barry Collins speaks at Excellence in Education

On Tuesday, May 24, Onslow County Schools hosted the inaugural Excellence in Education event, where educators were recognized for their hard work and dedication.

The event, which featured speakers, student performances, and a glamorous red-carpet entrance, recognized the work of more than 65 teachers, administrators, and support staff through an elevated award ceremony experience.

In surprise announcements, the district named 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year Kayla Anderson and 2022-2023 Assistant Principal of the year Courtney Moffitt.

Anderson, a teacher at Meadow View Elementary, is a 4-year educator who started with Onslow County Schools in 2018. She said that she believes in the power of student voices and strives to keep child-centered conversations and child-centered solutions at the forefront of her work in and out of the classroom.

Moffitt is an assistant principal at Richlands Elementary, who has a reputation as a dynamic leader who encourages the best from her staff and students. She is described by the teachers in her building as someone who leads by example and keeps the wellbeing of “the whole child” in mind each and every day.

OCS is proud to be home to thousands of educators who show a true passion for student success. At Excellence in Education, the district not only announced the OCS Teacher of the Year and Assistant Principal of the Year, but also recognized teachers and administrators for their unique skills and expertise in areas such as technology, STEM, math, literacy, mentorship, and more.

As they say, it certainly takes a village to raise or educate a child, and OCS recognizes the great contributions our support staff make to the school environment. For this reason, we were also pleased to recognize the winners of the Gladys Stafford Award for Outstanding Secretarial Service and Student Support Educator of the Year.
