Coastal Elementary Adopted by Military Unit

Marines with Coastal students and staff

On Friday, May 24, 2024, Coastal Elementary School held a ceremony to mark the official beginning of its partnership with Headquarters Battery 10th Marine Regiment.

The Marines were welcomed to the school with a performance from the Pelican Pipers, and the unit and students went on to exchange a pledge to support one another.

The relationship between Coastal Elementary and the Marine Corps was established through the Adopt-a-School program. Adopt-a-School promotes mutually beneficial relationships between the military and schools by allowing military units to “adopt” a school. Units support schools through volunteering at school events, test monitoring, providing mentorship, and more. Schools can show their support for their unit during the holidays and during times of deployment.

Onslow County Schools now has around 30 schools participating in the Adopt-a-School program, with several more waiting to be matched to local military units.

We greatly value the relationships we have with our military community, and their importance cannot be understated. We are proud to continue welcoming service members into our schools for years to come.

Congratulations, Pelicans!
