Carl Cruthis Named OCS Assistant Principal of the Year
Carl Cruthis, of Southwest High School, has been named the 2019-2020 Assistant Principal of the Year by Onslow County Schools.
Deputy Superintendent Dr. Beth Folger and a group of district administrators, surprised Cruthis at his school on September 26 and delivered the exciting news. The group was joined by school staff and the Southwest High School marching band as they announced the selection.
Cruthis has been an assistant principal for three years, all of which have been spent at Southwest High School.
In their nomination letter, SWHS Principal Tim Foster and SWHS Assistant Principal Dr. Kimberly McDuffie said that Cruthis is a “dedicated and trustworthy addition to the Southwest High School family.” They said that he can be counted on to help the school’s staff excel and is “a people person, who is humble in spirit, yet knowledgeable in a variety of ways.”
Julie Pollock, a SWHS teacher, said Cruthis is “a strong role model for both students and staff” who leads by example.
“Mr. Cruthis is the type of assistant principal every teacher hopes to work for and needs as a mentor and leader,” Pollock said. “He is flexible, calm under pressure and very proficient in his actions and strong in his character.”
A committee comprised of a community member, district instructional staff member, the principal of the year and the teacher of the year interviewed finalists before making a selection.
Next, Cruthis will go on to compete at the regional level.
